Group Think Or Whosoever Will: Part 3
Whosoever Will |
Group Think |
The mystery concerns individuals
(Rom. 10:12,13, II Cor. 5:14-17).
Things That Differ, Stam: |
Prophecy mainly concerns nations as such (Isa.
2:4, Ezek. 37:21,22).
Things That Differ: |
|
Jews |
Calvinists |
10 He
replied, "I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your
altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too." (1
Kings 19:10)
4 Ah, sinful nation, a people loaded with guilt,
a brood of evildoers, children given to corruption! They have forsaken the Lord; they have spurned the Holy One of Israel
and turned their backs on him. (Isaiah 1) |
The sun has never shone on a more bloodthirsty and vengeful people
than they are who imagine that they are God's people who have been commissioned and commanded to murder and to slay the Gentiles.
In fact, the most important thing that they expect of their Messiah is that he will murder and kill the entire world with
their sword." (The Jews And Their Lies, Luther)
Oh Really?
The Council Of Dort Hasn't Happened Until After Luther Said This,
But Luther, Who Believes God Is A Group Thinker, Choosing Some Rejecting The Rest Is Unknowingly
Describing His Own Future Calvinists. This Calvinist Council Killed Some Free Willers As The Catholics Did The First
Reformers.
Seems His Description Of The Jews Is A Description Of His Group Of Group Thinkers As
Well.

Then The Lord Chooses 'The Foolish' (1 Corinthians 2) Not Only To Replace
The Replacement Theologians But To Confound (Perplex, Confuse, Refute, To Put To Shame,) The Wise, By Just Believing What
God Says.
Notice, That Turning From The Jews To The Gentiles Wasn't A Turning
From One Group To Another (Jew To Gentile) But From Group Think and Preference To Whosoever Will. (Compare Matthew 10:5ff,
Galatians 2:8,9 With Romans 3, Acts 15)
In Verse One Of Chapter Fourteen Individual Jews And Gentiles Were Getting
Saved.
The Jews Confused God's Side-Choosing , With Their Side-Believing, And
The End Result Was Their Undoing.
Calvinists Think They Are Irresistably Chosen By God, Despite Their
Free Response.
Nowhere In Scripture Does It Show That Believers Are Irresistably Chosen,
Exclusive Of Their Response.
That May Have Been True When Christ Went To The "Lost House Of Israel' But Now:
'
12 We have not received the spirit of the
world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what
we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual
words. 14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they
are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual
man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment: 16 "For who
has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" 16 But we have the mind of Christ.' (1
Corinthians 2) |
1) Illusion of invulnerability
"Abraham is our father,' they answered. 'If you were Abraham's
children,' said Jesus, 'then you would do the things Abraham did. 40 As it is, you are determined to kill me, a man who has told you the truth
that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41 You are doing the things your
own father does.' 'We are not illegitimate children,' they protested. 'The only Father we have is God himself.' 42 Jesus said to them, 'If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from
God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me.'" (John 8)
Jesus Here Made The Actions Of These 'Chosen People' An Example That
Choosing Is Two Sided.
Some Think That Because The Jews Are God's Chosen People That They Are
Not Required To Believe In Christ To Be Saved.
I Refute That At:
GroupThink And The Jew:
God's Gifts And Call On The Jew Is Irrevocable And We Cannot Replace
Israel With The Church.
(Romans 11)
However, Their Destiny Has Been Delayed Because They Thought They Were
Chosen To Rest On Their Blessed Assurances While Thanking God They Weren't Like The Gentiles, When Actually
They Were Chosen To Be Lights To The Gentiles And Lead The Way.
"You are my witnesses,' declares the Lord, 'and my servant
whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before
me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me." (Isaiah 43:10)
What We Learn From History Is That We Learn Very Little From His-Story.
"Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: "We had to speak
the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the
Gentiles. 47 For this is what the Lord has commanded us: "'I have made you a light for the
Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.'" 48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all
who were appointed for eternal life believed. 49 The word of the Lord spread through the
whole region. 1 At Iconium Paul
and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Gentiles
believed. " (Acts 13:46-14:1)
Being Chosen Here Didn't Replace The Need To Believe.
This Is What Paul Says To Those That Think This Way:
"You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I could
be grafted in." 20 Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand
by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either. 22 Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that
you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off." (Romans 9)
|
1) Illusion of invulnerability
Over And Over, Groups Claim Special Favor With God, Rest On Their Laurels, Pontificate From
Their Lecterns And Pulpits, Condescend (In A Negative Sense), To Those Of Lower Estate, Claim How Uninformed Everyone Else
Is Because They Didn't Read The Books They Did.
One Or A Whole Group Of Folks Can Create The Environment That Preserves
This Illusion Of Invulnerability.
One That Spends Most Of His Time Lecturing Students In An Environment
Where Students Are Pressured to Suck Up Or Agree The More They Will Never Be Challenged to Come Out Of their Comfort Zones.
|
18 do not boast over those branches. If you
do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you. 19 You will say then, "Branches were
broken off so that I could be grafted in." 20 Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you
stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will
not spare you either. 22 Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but
kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off. (Romans 11) |
Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this
inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."
20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are
for noble purposes and some for ignoble. 21 If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an
instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. (2 Timothy 2) |
2) Unquestioned belief in the inherent morality of the group
There Are Of Course Multitudes Of Examples Of The Jews, Convening Their
Councils And Tribunals To Condemn Christ And His Followers, Even Threatening Them. (Acts 5)
Who Are These Unschooled Uneducated Men To Tell Us What The Truth Is?
They Confuse Intellectual Capacity With Spiritual Receptivity.
"When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that
they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. 14 But since they could see
the man who had been healed standing there with them, there was nothing they could say." (Acts 4)
Unschooled Ordinary Men Who Had Been With Jesus, That's All You Really
Need.
Nothing Can Replace A Desire To Be With Christ And Learn Of Him.
"So they ordered them to withdraw from the Sanhedrin and then
conferred together. 16 "What are we going to
do with these men?" they asked. "Everybody living in Jerusalem knows they have done an outstanding miracle, and we cannot deny it. 17 But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn these men to speak no longer to
anyone in this name." 18 Then
they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John replied, "Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God's sight to obey you rather than
God. 20 For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard." 21 After further threats they let them go. They
could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened. 22 For the man who was miraculously healed was over forty years old." (Acts 4)
"But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was
honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while. 35 Then he addressed them: "Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. 36 Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed,
all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. 37 After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people
in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. 38 Therefore, in the
present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it
will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting
against God." 40 His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak
in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering
disgrace for the Name. 42 Day after
day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is
the Christ." (Acts 5)
It Seems That Gamaliel Was The Only Rational Person Here, But It Didn't
Stop The Sanhedrin From Flogging The Apostles And Commanding Them To Not Speak Of Jesus. |
2) Unquestioned belief in the inherent morality of the group

"The term "whosoever" in John 3:16 can literally be translated "everyone who believes"
or "all who believe." "Whosoever" is also an accurate rendering of the term. Imagine a generous candy man standing on the
street corner passing out free candy and saying, "Boys and girls, Come! Everyone who receives a piece of candy will
also receive a free balloon." Regardless of the response of the children, would not this be a universal offer to all the boys
and girls? No one hearing this invitation would be excluded. He could have said, "Whosoever receives a piece of candy
will also receive a free balloon" and the meaning would have been the same."

22 To the weak I became weak,
to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. 23 I
do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way
as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown
that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like a man running
aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. 27 No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after
I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. (1 Cor. 9) |

Everyone Is Probably Guilty Of This To One Degree Or Another.
Now Views Of People Outside The Group May Sometimes Be Justified, But
The Real Question Is Whether Those Views Are Condescending, Generalizations Or The Plain Truth.
One Can Be So Busy Looking Down On Folks That They Don't Take The Time
To Look Around Or Up?
It Is A Common Argument That Ones Opponent Just Doesn't Understand Me.
I Think Condemning A Person Because They Haven't Read A Particular Work
Or They Are Not Of Your Particular Clique, Is Probably Stereotyping Not To Mention, Arrogant.
My Particular Views Of Any Group That Consider Themselves The Elect
Is That It Fosters Apathy And Condescension, Be It Calvinists, Free Willers, Etc.
Best to: ' Castaway'
But Check Out:
One Can Claim God Commands This Or That Contradicting Their Other Views.
You Can Claim That Gods Loves All, But Irresistably Saves Some, Irresistably
Damns Others, But Love Is Incompatible With A god That Does That, Especially In Light Of The Fact That Scripture Says That
God Is Love, Is Not Willing That Any Should Perish, But That All Come To Repentance. (2 Peter 3), And Commands Every Man,
Everywhere To Repent (Acts 17)
Elitism In Gods Present Oikonomia/Economy Is No Less Contradictory Than
Maintaining That All Is Illusion As The Christian Scientist (The Cult) Does, But Then Living In The World As If Everything
Is Real.
To Replace All With Some, Or Gods Desired Will With His Predetermined
Will Is No Better Than Catholics Making A Distinction Between The formal And Material Sufficiency Of Scripture.
Both Are Fabrications That Create Distinctions Where There Are None.
Ironside, Though Intending It For the Hyper Dispie, Effectively Condemns
Anyone That Does The Following:
"The word-sick man over-estimates altogether the importance of terms.
He babbles continually about _expressions which many of his brethren scarcely understand. He is given to misplaced emphasis,
making far more of fine doctrinal distinctions than of practical godly living. As a result, his influence is generally baneful
instead of helpful, leading to strife and disputation instead of binding the hearts of the people of God together in the unity
of the Spirit." (Wrongly Dividing The Word Of Truth, Ironside)
It Is Quarreling About Words, And Subverting The Plain Sense Of Scripture.
If It Is Wrong For The Cultists To Do It, It Is Wrong For Christians
To Do It.

Often People Think That If The Boisterous Few Are Speaking In Agreement
That This Means The Majority Of Silent Ones Must Agree With Them As Well.
There Is Really No Reason To Assume This.
You May Have Five Wolves And Two Sheep Voting On What To Have For Dinner,
But The 'Silence Of The Lambs' Is Not Because They Agree But Rather Because They Don't Want To Bring Attention To Themselves.
Let Me Give One Example Of How Minorities Sometimes Do It.
About Twenty Years Ago I Was In A Computer Lab Trying To Figure Out
QBasic, I Asked A Question Of A Vietnamese Lab Technician, And Rather Than Answering My Question He Said Something Out Loud
In Vietnamese And Then About Twenty To Thirty Vietnamese Students Laughed Out Loud.
This Silenced Me The Rest Of The Time, When I Should Have Reported Him
But I Was Too Embarassed And Didn't Want To Bring Any More Attention To Myself.

They Claimed That All OT Prophecies Of Jesus Are Out Of Context.
It Doesn't Bother Me, Because I Choose to Go In There With Something
To Say And To Be Inspired in What I Say.
But It Does Take Some Moral And Theological Resolve.
I Never Am Afraid To Hear What Someone Says, Unless They Mix It With
Personal Attacks, That Can Wear On You.
But This Interaction Helps Me Put Together Messages For My Website.
I Have My Doubts About Those That Seem To Hide Behind Their Pulpits,
Lecterns, Or Clique Groups Claiming How Unscriptural And Ignorant Their Detractors Are. |
Conformity Doesn't Always Mean Acceptance However, One May Conform
But That Doesn't Mean You Have Persuaded them.
You May Have Silenced Them In Your Group, But Not Elsewhere.
Pressure To Conform May Only Lead To Ones Individuality Being Compromised.
A Process Called Deindividuation Can Result In People Who Just Go With
The Flow Because It Is The Will Of The Group.
But The Flow May Be Downward, I Can Hear A Toilet Flushing.
This Is Also Prevalent When It Leads To Irresponsible Acts Where The
Person Feels Relieved Of The Responsibility To Act Responsibly Because He Feels Anonymous.
Mobs And Riots Are Perfect Examples.
The Group That Cried, 'Crucify Him' Wasn't Just Those That Wanted To
Crucify Him But Those That Were Either Swayed By The Mob Mentality Or Just Too Timid To Stand For Their Lord.
Example: Peter
It Took The Filling Of The Holy Spirit To Embolden Peter To Speak The
Truth No Matter What.
It Takes A Lot Of Courage To Stand Up For What You Believe, Especially
In Circles Where You Might Be Attacked.
I've Been A Part Of Skeptic Groups, Karaite Jews, Liberals, Preterists,
Catholics, Calvinists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Modalists, Jewish Wannabes, Replacement Theologians etc.
I've Done A Lot Of These 'You Know You're A ....' In These Groups. |

One Such One Is, That One Is Being Too Negative.
Often New Agers Who Believe Man To Be Essentially Good, Interpret Any
Negative To Be Condemned.
So In Other Words, The Only Ones We Should Condemn Are the Condemners.
Hitler Must Just Have Had A Bad Hair Decade.
But Some Are Even More Subtle In Condemning The Condemners.
It May Go Something Like This, 'I Really Got Some Bad Feelings While
Reading Your Post, Do You Think You Can Cast It In A Positive Light For Us?'
Or 'The Person You Quote Couldn't Have Possibly Said That Because It
Was So Hateful.'
Or, 'They Must Have Had A Bad Childhood, So We Should Treat Them As
Victims.'
Group Think Misses The Individual.
We Are Created In God's Image.
"Let Us Create Man In Our Image." (Genesis 1:26,27)

First, to set fire to their synagogues or schools and to
bury and cover with dirt whatever will not burn, so that no man will ever again see a stone or cinder of them. This is to
be done in honor of our Lord and of Christendom, so that God might see that we are Christians, and do not condone or knowingly
tolerate such public lying, cursing, and blaspheming of his Son and of his Christians. For whatever we tolerated in the past unknowingly and I myself was unaware of it will be pardoned by God. But if
we, now that we are informed, were to protect and shield such a house for the Jews, existing right before our very nose, in
which they lie about, blaspheme, curse, vilify, and defame Christ and us (as was heard above), it would be the same as if
we were doing all this and even worse ourselves, as we very well know."

Being Gods Chosen People Is To Be Chosen For Something. It Is
Not A Position But A Function.
"Stoicism is characterized as a philosophy of materialism,
pantheism, and fatalism. It is materialistic in the sense that everything that exists possesses corporeality and is ultimately
traced back to God. The Stoic God, redolent of Plato's Timaeus, is said to be the "body" of the universe whereby God
is its soul. This is how Stoicism becomes pantheistic in its understanding of the relationship between the universe and God.
It further portrays a fatalistic universe by declaring that everything that occurs happens by necessity. Nothing is left
to any libertarian volition. This has caused its followers to adopt a sort of
apathy toward our fatalistic universe. This apathy, say the Stoics,
is characterized as "accepting the will of God", something very reminiscent of Christianity. Hence, many make the association of Stoic fatalism with the Christian doctrine of predestination (e.g. the
Augustinian-Calvinist view)."

These differences again appear to be related to the differences
between Israel and the Church.
BASIC DISTINCTIONS BETWEEN PROPHECY
AND THE MYSTERY
PROPHECY |
THE MYSTERY9 |
Concerns a kingdom; a political organization
(Dan.2:44, Matt. 6:10). |
Concerns a body; a living organism
(I Cor. 12:12,27, Eph. 4:12-16). |
The kingdom to be established on
earth (Jer. 23:5, Matt. 6:10). |
The body given a position in heaven
(Eph. 1:3, 2:5-6, Col. 3:1-3). |
Christ to be its King
(Jer.23:5, Isa. 9:6,7). |
Christ its living Head
(Eph. 1:19-23, Col. 1:18). |
The kingdom prophesied
"since the world began" (Luke 1:68-70, Acts 3:21). |
The body chosen in Christ before the
world began, but "kept secret since the world began" (Rom. 16:25, Eph. 1:4-11, 3:5-9). |
Israel to be given supremacy over
the nations (Isa. 60:10-12, 61:6). |
Jew and Gentile placed on the same level before
God (Rom. 10:12, 11:32, Eph. 2: 16,17). |
The Gentiles to be blessed through
Israel's instrumentality (Gen. 22:17,18, Zech. 8:13). |
The Gentiles blessed through
Israel's obstinacy (Acts 13:44-46, Rom. 11:28-32). |
The Gentiles to be blessed through Israel's
rise (Isa. 60:1-3, Zech. 8:22,23). |
The Gentiles blessed through Israel's
fall (Acts 28:27,28, Rom. 11:11,12,15). |
Prophecy mainly concerns nations
as such (Isa. 2:4, Ezek. 37:21,22). |
The mystery concerns individuals
(Rom. 10:12,13, II Cor. 5:14-17). |
Prophecy concerns blessings,
both material and spiritual, on earth (Isa. 2:3,4, 11:1-9, etc.). |
The mystery concerns "all spiritual blessings in the heavenlies" (Eph. 1:3, Col. 3:1-3). |
Prophecy concerns Christ's coming to the earth (Isa. 59:20, Zech. 14:4). |
The mystery explains Christ's present absence from the earth (Eph. 1:20-23, Col. 3:1-3). |
In prophecy salvation by grace through faith alone
is not contemplated. |
Salvation by grace through faith alone
lies at the very heart of the mystery (Rom. 3:21-26, 4:5, Eph. 2:8,9). |
The proclamation of the prophetic program
committed particularly to the twelve (Matt. 10:5-7, Acts 1:6-8, 3:19-26). |
The proclamation of the mystery
committed particularly to Paul (Eph. 3:1-3,8,9, Col. 1:24-27). |
The prophetic program revealed through
many of God's servants (Luke 1:70, II Pet. 1:21). |
The mystery revealed through one
man: Paul (Gal. 1:1,11,12, 2:2,7,9, Eph. 3:2,3).10 |
Old testament writers frequently
did not understand the prophecies made known through them (Dan.
12:8-10, I Pet. 1:10-12). |
Paul both understood and longed
that others might understand the mystery revealed through him. (Eph. 1:15-23, 3:14-21, Col 1:9-10, 2:1-3). | http://geocities.com/protestantscot/ttd/chapter2.html
